WHAT YOU GET FOR YOUR MONEY
Becoming a Kids' Turn affiliate includes a lot more than just purchase of the curriculum. You also get a training manual, which includes an outline of behavioral and developmental changes in children, and and general information for workshop leaders (duties, boundaries, reporting, debriefings, confidentiality, etc.) Handouts for all sessions are included (handouts, training manual and the curriculum all come in a hard copy plus on disk, formatted for your computer).
The Kids' Turn curriculum actually includes four separate curricula: one for parents, and 3 for children, according to age; 4-6 year olds, 7-9 year olds, and 10-14 year olds. These are all run concurrently over a six-week period (once a week for 90 minutes each time). Activities are outlined for each group for each session, and all handouts are included as part of the package. The education-based curriculum is presented by pairs of mental health professionals and teachers, one pair for each group. Your Program Director or trainer(s) for your leaders will be required to attend an initial one-day training session here in San Francisco, or you can pay to have our Program Director flown out to you.
Workshop leaders utilize a number of tools in the childrens' sessions, including books, games, videos, puppets, magazines and drawing materials. Games specific to Kids' Turn are included with the curriculum; a supply list is included for other materials that are needed.
The curriculum purchase also includes a booklet entitled, "Getting Started with Kids' Turn," which is full of practical advice about creating support, gathering a board of directors, essential backers, and fundraising ideas. We will give you a generic brochure, the Kids' Turn logo and even a sample grant request. We also offer plenty of phone support as you get started, and offer you access to other Kids' Turn presenters, so you can have their input on how they got started.
We are also working to upgrade our Spanish language Kids' Turn curriculum, plus a curriculum for older teens and parents of toddlers and infants. Curriculum purchasers will have these materials made available to them as they are completed.
Purchase price for the curriculum is $3,000. Kids' Turn is sold only to nonprofits and must be run as a nonprofit organization. As you begin talking to community members about bringing Kids' Turn to your area, you may be able to find one person or group willing to foot the bill for purchase of the curriculum. This might be a foundation interested in supporting youth, your local Family Law Bar Association, a wealthy individual who has been through divorce, or perhaps you can find City or County employees or politicians who are willing to assist your search for government funding. |
