Turn Announces
The Next Step
program is a 4-week educational program for children (ages 6 to 14) and their
parents/step-parents. It meets for 2
hours weekly. Separate groups meet
at the same time for the children (divided into similarly aged groups) and
parents/stepparents.
The
Next Step Program is appropriate for:

Children ages 6-14 and their remarried/cohabiting
parent and stepparent
·
Couples with children from a previous relationship(s)
who are contemplating stepfamily life
·
Parents/stepparents with children under 6 or older than
14

Covered include:

children’s groups:
Normalizing stepfamily life
developing problem-solving skills for common stepfamily situations
addressing concerns about loyalty conflicts
Healthy living with Stepparents and stepsiblings
In
Adult group:
Elements that Make a Stepfamily healthy
Normal stepfamily lifecycles and Stages of Development
Developing new family rituals
Forging connections between Stepparents and Stepchildren
Communication skills to promote family harmony
Effective discipline strategies for stepfamilies
Relieving children of loyalty conflicts
Children
may not attend unless at least one of their parents also attends. Adults may attend without their children.
It is preferable, though not required, for families to have completed a
Kids’ Turn divorce/separation education workshop prior to attending the Next
Step.
