PLEASE READ -- VERY IMPORTANT

To: All Parents

Since Kids' Turn began in 1989, we have learned that children benefit more when both parents attend a workshop and learn the same information. Our Early Years program is designed to accommodate both parents at separate meeting dates. Hopefully this will allow both parents to attend while minimizing the difficulty of arranging childcare for your youngsters. Children do not participate in the Early Years program. While parents are not required to be physically separated prior to attending Early Years workshops, we do require that parents have made the decision to do so.

Parents and children who are ages 4 to 17 years old can register and participate in a regular Kids' Turn six-week workshop. At that workshop, both parents are encouraged to participate, in separate groups, at the same workshop. Children also participate in that workshop, in their own groups.

For information about the regular Kids' Turn workshop, please contact us. Parents with children who fall into both the 0-3 and 4-17 ranges are welcome to attend both the Early Years workshop and the regular Kids' Turn workshop.

In order to help your children make a healthy adjustment to the changes in their lives, we ask you to adhere to the following:

  1. Each participating parent must register for him or herself. One parent cannot register for the other parent.
  2. Each parent pays his or her own registration fee. One parent’s fee does not include payment for the other parent.
  3. Parents must inform each other of their intent to attend a workshop. Kids' Turn finds that children benefit most when both parents attend at close to the same time. Because of this benefit, Kids' Turn will also attempt to invite the other parent. If a participating parent fails to notify the other interested parent less than a week prior to the first workshop session, re-registration for a later, mutually-agreed-upon workshop may be required for both parents.
  4. If both parents wish to attend the Early Years workshop, they must agree upon which parent will attend which group. The Early Years workshop has two groups scheduled closely in time and location. If both parents agree, they may attend the same group. Otherwise, the parent who registers first gets priority for that group. In some cases, Kids' Turn staff may request parents to attend separate groups.
  5. Kids' Turn does not provide onsite childcare. Please arrange for your children to have care during the workshop so that you and the other parents can give their full attention to the workshop.
  6. Due to space limitations, registration forms must be received as early as possible from both parents who intend to participate. We cannot guarantee that space will be available if one or both parents’ forms arrive after a workshop is full.
  7. All participating parents are required to attend all six sessions. Missing more than one session will result in you being asked to enroll in a future workshop. Attendance at the first session is mandatory, as other parents may be on a waiting list.
  8. If you feel that special circumstances apply in your situation which would make it difficult or impossible to comply with these policies, please contact the Program Director at the Kids' Turn office at (415) 437-0700 or 1-800-392-9239 to discuss your participation. Arrangements must be made no later than one week before the first session of a workshop.
